Awaken World Premiere

Awaken weaves original material with resonant choreography from Selwyn’s 25 years of rich repertory. The piece explores the struggle between distraction, a quest for certainty, and living in an embodied present. Selwyn’s athletic choreography dramatizes the complexities of staying grounded, connected, and present in a modern world of endless distraction, consumerism, and convenience. Shifting sections of the work zero in on our relationship with ambiguity, control, trust, overthinking, vulnerability, and resilience.

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion was awarded a grant in the amount of $40,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Through New York State’s continued investment in arts and culture, NYSCA has awarded over $80 million since Spring 2023 to over 1,500 artists and organizations across the state.
We are honored to announce that we’ve received a grant from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ FY2025 Cultural Development Fund (CDF)!! Art and culture are the heart and soul of New York, contributing to a safer, stronger, more vibrant city. We’re proud to be among 1,078 organizations receiving over $59 million through the CDF - the largest-ever city allocation for the program, thanks to the partnership between the NYC Mayor’s Office and the City Council.
