Kim Guzzo
Board
Kim Guzzo has spent 30 years in the Connecticut education field as a classroom teacher, social skills coach, and reading interventionist. She is currently the Elementary Resource Specialist at the Capital Region Education Council (CREC), a non-profit regional education service center. In this role, she works for the Hartford Region Open Choice Program, which is a state-funded initiative aimed at decreasing education inequity through an exchange of Hartford residents to suburban public schools and, conversely, suburban residents to Hartford public schools. Kim works with 82 elementary schools, comprised of over 1,000 Pre-K to grade 3 students, to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation while improving academic and social outcomes for students.
By raising two daughters with her husband, Paul, Kim was active in schools, the community, and various extra-curricular activities. As a leader of the local Girl Scouts of CT organization, Kim successfully chaired the “Someone Special and Me/Snowflake Ball” for many years. She worked to bring over $20,000 in technology to families needing access to distance learning during the pandemic. Kim is also a volunteer judge for the CT Invention Convention and has worked with the Angel of Edgewood’s Holiday Program to deliver assistance to families in need during the holiday season.
While both daughters danced well into their college years, Kim's interest peaked when her daughter, Gianna, joined Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre as a company member. By subsequently learning about ASDT's mission,  goals, and values, Kim’s longing to contribute to the development and expansion of the organization led her to the ASDT Board.
In her free time, Kim dives into creative projects. When there is a holiday, celebration, or event, she is meticulous and thoughtful in curating an unforgettable experience via sweets, decor, and activities. Kim is notorious in her local community for her baking skills. She boasts an impressive portfolio of cake designs for all occasions and whips up hundreds of cookies during the holidays for friends and family that come boxed with a menu and bow. Kim nurtures a dahlia garden, has taken up knitting, practices lettering and calligraphy, experiments with recipes and cooking, and is always on the hunt for the perfect gifts for family, friends, and co-workers. These many avenues of creativity allow Kim to express her gratitude for those in her life in a truly authentic way.
